Webinar, January 18th, 2023, with the Maria Paiewonsky, Institute of Community Inclusion, UMass Boston.
Hosted by The ThinkCollege National Coordinating Center.
* With the enactment of the Higher Education Opportunities Act of 2008, a growing number of opportunities exist across the country for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to attend college.
* In this time, we have learned a lot about how students with IDD meet higher expectations when given the chance to learn and work with their peers at college.
* At the same time, we have also learned more about how we can better prepare younger students for college success.
* In this webinar, the presenter will share recommendations for individual education program (IEP) team members to develop and support IEP goals that align with the preparation, knowledge and skills students need at college.
Presenter: Maria Paiewonsky, Ed. D, is the program manager and transition specialist at the Institute for Community Inclusion. She also serves as Director of the Mass. Transition Leadership Initiative, a personnel preparation program that prepared Master’s Level Transition Specialists at UMASS-Boston.
* Maria has coordinated numerous secondary and transition related projects and works with teachers, interdisciplinary team members, students and families to develop positive and inclusive college, work and community outcomes.
