With Massachusetts Advocates for Children – Deadline to Apply is April 12th, 2024. The Massachusetts Advocates for Children’s (MAC) fellowship is open to people in Massachusetts between the ages of 18 and 26, who have autism and/or intellectual disabilities. Fellows work part time for one year, supported by the Young Adult Leaders Fellowship Supervisor and a MAC lawyer.
Through the program, young people with disabilities:
- Learn how laws are made in Massachusetts
- Talk to lawmakers at the State House about disability rights
- Find out how students can ask for what they want at IEP and other meetings
- Practice giving speeches and trainings about rights for people with disabilities
- Learn how to work in an office setting
Benefits to this program:
- Provides opportunities for the fellow to share lived experience with others
- Provides opportunities for the fellow to speak directly with lawmakers and policy makers to make changes
- Provides opportunities to learn self-advocacy skills and office skills
