Newton, MA, August 22nd – 24th, 2025. Skill Builder Weekend: ‘Back-to-School’ for Blind Parents with hosted by Carroll Center for the Blind, and is specifically designed for legally blind parents. The program will offer hands-on sessions on using mobile devices to manage parenting tasks like school communication, health care access, transportation, and scheduling. All in an accessible and supportive environment.
Who It’s For: Legally blind parents with basic VoiceOver/Zoom skills who are looking to grow their confidence and skills for everyday parenting.
Skills Addressed:
- School & Health Portals: Navigate tools like PowerSchool, Google Classroom, and MyChart.
- Calendars & Reminders: Stay organized with calendar apps, voice assistants, and scheduling tools.
- Communicating with Schools & Providers: Practice clear and effective communication using accessible tech.
- Getting Around & Getting Things Done: Explore tools for transportation, grocery shopping, and household management.
- Real-World Task Practice & Problem Solving: Apply your skills to real-life parenting scenarios in a supportive environment.
