Webinar, December 5th, 2023, with Bridgewell of Peabody, MA. In this workshop, discuss a method of assessing the factors that lead a student to refuse and avoid school and an approach that involves direct collaboration with the student and family to resolve the school avoidance issue.
- Participants will understand why school refusal requires a team approach that includes teachers, school staff, parents and the child.
- Participants will understand the factors that lead to school refusal and the factors that determine the degree and kind of refusal.
- Participants will learn an approach to school refusal that includes evidence based/outcome based interventions.
About the Speakers:
* Tim Niemiec specializes in the areas of autism spectrum disorder, social pragmatic communication disorder, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorders, applied behavioral analysis, school inclusion, social skills training, and sport psychology. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst.
* Eric Pegnam is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with over 15 years’ experience working with children in school, clinical and residential settings. Mr. Pegnam has provided consultation on individual students, classrooms, and programs to school districts in the great Boston area. For many years, Mr. Pegnam has run social skills groups for children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum, as well as children with a broad range of social and developmental delays.
