The Massachusetts Council for Exceptional Children and Simmons College present Opiate Use & Disabilities: Increasing Resiliency & Decreasing Risk. This event will feature Dr. Kerry Wilkins, school consultant and specialist in the neurobiology of addiction, specifically behavioral addictions. Dr. Wilkins is an expert in school consultation and collaboration, as well as child and adolescent psychiatry in combined therapy and medication management. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of students and teachers from Liberty Prep Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts.
“Hidden in Plain Sight- Spotting At Risk Behavior” Exhibit available through entire event. Spotting “at risk” behavior – displayed by South Shore Hospital. The “Hidden in Plain Sight” initiative helps parents spot signs of at-risk behaviors. The initiative uses an educational display of a teenager’s bedroom to test parents’ knowledge of common household items that can be substance abuse warning signs. The display is designed to encourage honest and candid discussion of the topics of underage drinking and substance abuse.

Full Symposium Overview –An informative symposium of practitioners, legislators, and students regarding the drug use epidemic featuring Dr. Kerry Wilkins, expert in adolescent psychology and substance abuse and a panel of students and teachers.
Dr. Kerry Wilkins received her medical doctorate from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. She completed the combined internship, residency and fellowship training program at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. She is board certified in both Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Association for Academic Psychiatry Fellowship Award in 2011 and the AADPRT/Ginsberg Fellowship Award in 2012.
In addition to treating children, adolescents and adults in combined psychotherapy and medication management in her private practice in Northborough, Dr. Wilkins is a consultant to multiple school districts and collaboratives, including the Northborough-Southborough Public Schools, Leominster Public Schools, and FLLAC, CAPS and ACCEPT Educational Collaboratives. In the past, she has consulted to the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health, as well as multiple other community and academic facilities. She is a frequent lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training program, and she often presents to multiple audiences in the community, including school personnel, superintendents, behavioral analysts, juvenile forensic assessors and therapeutic programs.
