* 1:00 pm – Keynote Presenter – Carey M. Ballard EdM. A Deaf filmmaker, researcher, and educator known for directing the feature documentary Unmasking Deaf Education (2025), which explores the historical and ideological shifts in Deaf education across the United States. Carey earned an Ed.M. in Deaf Education from Boston University and a B.A. in American SignLanguage and Linguistics from Gallaudet University.
* Language Equity Panel. Panelists:
Bert Carter – Willie Ross School for the Deaf
Rebekah Marchilena – READS Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program
Dr. Karen Kelly Hopkins – Children’s Center for Communication/BSD
Glennis R. Matthews – The Learning Center for the Deaf
Deaf Empowerment YES – Dr. Melissa Anderson and Dr. Alex Wilkens provide mental health and addiction counseling for Deaf individuals in Massachusetts in ASL or your preferred language.
* Services are available via Zoom, videophone, or in person for issues like depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, and dual diagnosis.
