Virtual and in person in Burlington, Mattapoisett, Sturbridge, Wareham, MA. September 20th, 2024, is the deadline for Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 programs. Free. This training that guides parents and caregivers, who have Department of Developmental Disability Services eligible loved ones, to imagine better and be effective leaders at the local level and beyond.
* Accepted participants are expected to participate in in-person and/or virtual training across several months.
- Training: Teaching “Best Practices” in Advocacy – Through presentations, activities, and group work, participants will learn how to influence change.
* Topics will include: The history of the disability movement, initiative, leadership, advocacy, policy making, and self-care. - Leadership: Mentoring Families in Vision Planning & Goal Setting. Using the Charting the LifeCourse framework, families will be supported in developing a vision of a good life for their family member with a disability.
* Then, the families will identify a goal and action steps to realize that vision. - Community: Bringing Disability Leaders Together – Throughout the Series, participants will meet other disability leaders to
share knowledge, experience, and ideas. Families will identify ways to develop supports in their community and may build friends and
“advocacy allies” that can last a lifetime.
