* Hosted by: Representative Steve Owens of Watertown, Mass. and the CVI Center at Perkins School for the Blind.
* Discover why Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) – the leading cause of childhood blindness and low vision – often goes undiagnosed and is widely misunderstood.
* Learn how you can make a direct impact to improve outcomes, raise awareness, and celebrate those living with CVI in the Commonwealth.
* Attend a panel discussion with legislators and their staff, featuring insightful discussions and changemaking stories.
* Take the opportunity to visit your own representatives at the State House to continue raising awareness
Speakers:.

  • Lotfi Merabet, OD, Ph.D, MPH – Lotfi is a clinician-scientist investigating how the brain adapts to visual impairment.
  • Emily Cantillon, Ph.D, TVI, CCVI – Emily is a Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired at Perkins School for the Blind with extensive research interests around the educational practices and access for students with CVI.
  • Representative Steve Owens- Steve serves as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from the 29th Middlesex district.
  • Rebecca Davis, FCSN – CVI parent advocate and Director of Transition Projects at the Federation for Children with Special Needs.
  • Tina Zhu Xi Caruso – Tina is a photographer, CVI and disability advocate, and participant in the Netflix series Love on the Spectrum.
