Beverly, MA, with theThe Children’s Center for Communication. For ages 6 – 10 and 11 – 15. There are a variety of ability levels available to choose from.
ASL 101 – This 5-week course teaches basic vocabulary words such as food, family and animals. Social phrases are also taught, to help get started in conversational skills. The alphabet and numbers 1- 20 are covered, as well. There is a basic introduction to Deaf Culture.
ASL 102 – ASL102 uses the True+Way ASL Curriculum. In addition to reinforcing prior content. new topics covered in ASL 102 include classroom actions, ABCs, numbers, time of day, days of the week, colors, school/environment, and basic grammar.
ASL103 – ASL 103 uses the True+Way ASL Curriculum. In addition to reinforcing prior content, new topics covered in ASL 103 include family, relationships, pets, employment, life milestones, community, transportation, cities, and states.
ASL104 – ASL 104 uses the True+Way ASL Curriculum. In addition to reinforcing prior content, new topics covered in ASL 104 include schedules, calendar/time, events, holidays, seasons, errands, activities/routes, hobbies, interests, sports, vacation, and snacks.
CONVERSATIONAL – Students practice conversational skills in a class that is fully voice off. Vocabulary development, ASL grammar development and tips for carrying on a full conversation with theDeaf Community are addressed.
DEAF CULTURE – This 5 week course teaches about the Deaf Community and its culture. Values held by the Deaf Community will bereviewed, including the importance of the following: ASL, History of the Deaf Community, Stories/ Idioms, and the culture of the Deaf and HOH.
FINGERSPELLING – This class works on developing and refining fingerspelling skills, both expressively and receptively.
CUSTOMIZED CLASS – The ASL team can develop a dedicated ASL class for a group of 5 or more. This class can be tailored to the needs of families, educators, professionals, and community organizations who would like to learn as a group.
