Internet Safety for Kids with Different Abilities and / or Learning DifferencesWebinar, April 12th, 2022, with a Family Support Center in Peabody, MA. This is the second of a three-part series with Katie Greer, who will speak to parents and guardians about internet safety.
* The web can be difficult to navigate these days under the best of circumstances let alone for those with intellectual and developmental disability. Katie will help participants become better equipped to handle the rapidly changing dynamic we have in our relationship with technology.
* This program will look at the overall digital landscape – what kids are doing, using and why, and most importantly – how we can help them be safe and productive while using technology.
* It will cover the latest apps (like TikTok), trends and explore ways parents can utilize tools to help their kids safety use technology.
Workshops 2 & 3:
* 14-22 year olds April 12th – 7 pm  – Technology can be a wonderfully powerful tool, if used correctly. This presentation will talk about how a lot of our lives are now captured through technology and social media, and how it’s so important to be smart and safe while using it. This includes things like correctly using privacy settings, properly managing who we connect with, and understanding that what we see online might not always be as it appears. Discuss  how important it is to be constructive digital consumers – really thinking about what we’re seeing and making good choices for ourselves, our families, and futures. Digital health is also an important component of this conversation, making sure technology is a productive tool that we decide to use, but not one that uses us. This program will also cover teen sexting – setting boundaries and seeking help if you feel unsafe.
* Ages 22+ April 13th – 7 pm – Technology is a giant part of our everyday lives, and it’s important to set some guidelines around how it can and should be safety and productively used. This program will cover the permanency of our choices online – which can be a wonderfully helpful thing, but also problematic if we’re not using it the correct way. Discuss how important it is to thoughtfully and critically consume all different types of media, as not everything that is posted or shared is accurate. This program will look at overall digital health, covering issues around overuse and how important it is to take a break, and utilize tools to help us do so. This program will cover setting boundaries, whether it’s with someone we’re connected with online, or someone we’re communicating with via phones, so we can make sure it’s appropriate and helpful, not harmful.
