Foxboro, September 13th, 2017. Mary Ryan Woods, co-author of “I Didn’t Cause It, I Can’t Change It – How Mothers of Adult Children with Co-Occurring Disorders Have Coped”, will discuss how this book chronicles the journey taken by fourteen mothers of adult children who have experienced Co-Occurring Disorders. The focus is on informing treatment providers how the use of language and inclusion in the treatment process promotes recovery for the whole family.
While their experiences were varied, there were many common threads; isolation, stigma, shame, and secrecy. Also, they all were able to reclaim their lives and enter into recovery. These mothers want to share their experience with others who are on similar journeys – develop a new perspective, obtain a new resource and celebrate recovery.
