* She will discuss the little known and often misunderstood disorders of PANS and PANDAS, which can trigger the sudden onset of neuropsychiatric responses in children.

* While researchers are only beginning to study and understand these syndromes, this panel aims to provide the latest information on causes and treatments.
What Are PANS/PANDAS? PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) occurs when strep triggers a misdirected immune response and results in inflammation on a child’s brain. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) is when an infectious trigger, environmental factors, and other possible triggers create a misdirected immune response results in inflammation on a child’s brain.
* With both, the affected child quickly begins to exhibit life changing symptoms such as OCD, anxiety, tics, personality changes, decline in math and handwriting abilities, restrictive eating, sensory sensitivities, and more. Untreated PANDAS/PANS can cause permanent debilitation. If treated in a timely fashion, PANDAS/PANS can remit entirely.
* Cosponsored by: New England PANS/PANDAS Association
