Police officer Autism and Law Enforcement workshop for special needs families in Massachusetts (2)Webinar, March 31st, 2022, with the Autism Support Center at the Northeast Arc in Danvers. You are invited to join a presentation offered by Northeast Arc Family & Autism Support Centers in collaboration with ALEC, Autism and Law Enforcement Educational Coalition.
* Daily law enforcement encounters a multitude of individuals in emergency situations.
* Just as each emergency differs from the next, so does the individual involve, especially regarding people with autism.
* Police are trained to respond to a crisis with a certain protocol, but this protocol may not always be the best way to interact with people with autism.
* Because police are usually the first to respond to an emergency, it is critical that these officers have a working knowledge of autism, and the wide variety of behaviors people with autism can exhibit in emergency situations.
* Learning the sings of autism is an important first step toward preventing unfortunate situations.
* The focus will be the Northshore area. Police departments from 17 cities and towns in the Northshore have been invited.
