* The services provided to individuals with Intellectual disabilities has progressed and changed over the more than 100 years that services have been provided.
* There has been much improvement and many harmful and inappropriate attitudes and actions through the years.
* It is important that the public know of the history so they do not let the wrong kinds of issues ever happen again and that they appreciate how much the lives and rights of those with intellectual disabilities have improved.
