Webinar for families with Autism in MassachusettsWebinar, August 17, 2021, with the Federation for Children with Special Needs in Massachusetts. Updates for School Reopening: Up-to-date DESE Guidance. The DESE is the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
* A joint presentation series by Massachusetts Advocates for Children and the Federation for Children with Special Needs. Topics will include:

  • Covid-compensatory services
  • Changes to the hospital and home school form
  • Evaluations
  • Districts trying to take students off of IEPs or switch to 504 plans without evaluations,
  • Reopening guidance changes.

About the Presenters:

  • Janine Solomon, Esq. is MAC’s Managing Attorney and Children’s Law Support Project Director. Janine has significant work experience in the fields of special education and disability discrimination law and policy. She has represented numerous children and their families in efforts to obtain appropriate special education services and placements.  She has also testified on proposed amendments to M.G.L. Chapter 71B to enhance protections for students with disabilities.
  • Eileen Sandberg, PhD. coordinates the Pathways for Parents program at FCSN, and is a Recruitment, Training and Support specialist for Special Education Surrogate Parents. The Pathways program provides support on special education issues to programs funded by the Department of Children and Families, including the 27 Massachusetts Family Resource Centers, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and the Family Advisory Committee to DCF. Eileen has five young adult children, all of whom had IEPs in their school years.
