Virtual Event, May 18th & June 13th, 2022, with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health and the New England ATTC Network. Learn about approaches to support and engage individuals in Dual Recovery.
* Each date offers a unique training session and it is not required that you attend both dates. There will be keynotes on the topics below as well as individuals sharing their recovery stories.
KEYNOTE: (May 18th) – A Social Justice Approach to Understanding Disparities and Building Equity in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Field – Presented by Haner Hernandez, Ph.D., CPS, CADCII, LADCI, and Michele Stewart-Copes, M.S., M.S.W.
* Utilizing a social justice framework the participant will learn about structural and social determinants of health, institutionalized racism, trauma and their impacts on SUDs, Mental Health challenges, treatment access, and outcomes and recovery.

KEYNOTE: (June 13th) – Applying a Social Justice and Public Health Lens to the Impact of Mass Incarceration on People with Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health Challenges.Presented by Haner Hernandez, Ph.D., CPS, CADC-II, LADCI, and Michele Stewart-Copes, M.S., M.S.W.
* This session will review the development of disparities in the US and their impacts on racialized and marginalized communities with a specific focus on mass incarceration and trauma.
