ABLE Account vs. a Special Needs Trust? Special Needs Adult and ParentWebinar, February 13th, 2024, with the Special Needs Housing and Transition Group of Wakefield, MA. Hear Elizabeth Sandblom, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Operations, for the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) discuss Self-Direction.
* Self-Directed service models permit the participant and family the opportunity to create individualized supports. The individual and family have authority of their budget and decide who they want to hire and when these supports will be scheduled and arranged.
* There are two options of managing this arrangement: Agency with Choice, and the Participant Directed Programs.
* There are many moving parts to this service, and it can be a departure from traditional services.
* DDS is in the process of aligning the regulations of Self Direction to be in step with the Real Lives Law enacted by the Massachusetts Legislature in 2014.
* Liz will offer a broad stroke of this service model so that parents are provided sufficient information to determine if it merits consideration for their family members.
