New Boston Mental-Health NAMI Affiliate:
NAMI Boston was created by bringing NAMI GB-CAN, NAMI Latino, and NAMI Dorchester, Mattapan/Roxbury under the umbrella of NAMI Boston. NAMI Boston’s goal is to deliver advocacy, support and education programs to Boston individuals and their families dealing with mental illness. Deets on the Mental Health Page.
DSM-5 Changes & Implications for Special Education:
June 19th, Danvers. Specialists from Boston Children’s Hospital will discuss DSM-5 (Fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), the new ASD diagnostic criteria and implications of many of the changes. The Real Friends Project is offering mini-grants to Massachusetts organizations that have creative approaches to support the development of relationships between people with and without developmental/intellectual disabilities. April 30th, Medford. Larry Epstein, of Think:Kids, will discuss behavioral challenges that result from a lack of skills such as problem solving, frustration tolerance and flexibility, and helping adults teach children the skills they lack. See ADD/ADHD page.
Mental Health Advocacy Day in Boston:
April 8th, at the State House. Hear speakers and meet with your legislators about issues such as enhanced mental health prevention, intervention and community-based programs, insurers and behavioral health emergency services, and more. See details on the Mental Health page.
College Fair for Students with Learning Differences:
April 4th, Bolton. For parents and students grades 8-12, this is a college fair with a focus on programs for students with learning differences.
