Liane Holliday-Willey 50494_120472248009507_4886_n (3)Watertown, May 4th, 2016. For teen girls, women on the Spectrum and their parents. Hear Liane Holliday-Willey, author of Pretending to Be Normal and Asperger Syndrome in the Family, share personal insights with information on current research and how challenging it can be to survive and thrive in a society that doesn’t easily accept those who are different. At 35, Liane was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and became passionate about refocusing her interests on diversity training and knowing what it is like to be “one smart cookie” who nonetheless struggles with multi-tasking, organization, social skills, sensory integration, literal thinking, anxiety, and rigid thinking patterns.
** Women with an autism spectrum challenge present far differently than do their male counterparts.  They are diagnosed less often, diagnosed inaccurately and too often left out of much needed support systems.  In this talk, Liane will provide personal insight, research reviews and practical suggestions for females who have Asperger Syndrome or a related Autism Spectrum profile.  Special attention will be paid to issues of safety and vulnerability in relationships, such as:

  • “How do you read someone’s intentions?  Are there clues?”
  • “How do you keep from being taken advantage of in a friendship or romantic situation?”
  • How to establish and cultivate healthy relationships.

Fees apply, registration required to 617 393-3824 ext. 30 or visit www.aane.org.
