Discipline Matters Workshop in MassachusettsWebinar, March 29th, 2023, with the Franklin, MA, SEPAC. This workshop is available to all adult community members. It will provide an introduction to a practical, front-end method to address behavioral challenges – concrete steps that we can take to help children who have the will to succeed, but lack the skills to succeed.
*  Kids with challenging behavior are often misunderstood and mistreated. Rewards and punishments don’t work and often make things worse.
* Helping kids with challenging behavior requires understanding why they struggle in the first place. But what if everything we thought was true about challenging behavior was actually wrong?
* The Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach recognizes that kids with challenging behavior are already trying hard. They don’t lack the will to behave well. They lack the skills to behave well.
This interactive session will provide an orientation to the Collaborative Problem Solving model.
Explore:
* The philosophy and understanding of challenging behaviors.
* A brief overview of the three phases of CPS.
* A brief overview of Plan B — the problem-solving process
* Opportunity to watch a problem-solving conversation.
* Discussion and opportunity for Q&A
About the presenter: Ben Stich, LICSW, M.Ed., is a Certified Trainer and Consultant for Think:Kids andconducts training and coaching in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS).
