People, Inc., Plymouth, MA. A workshop for parents of children and adults with autism. Patricia Menzel grew up being educated in both mainstream and special education classes without a diagnosis to explain her special needs. Then, at the age of 48, she received the diagnosis of Autism. Today, Patti uses mindfulness practices, sensory diet, and clean eating to manage her autism. Although Patti receives some supports, she lives independently at home with her service dog, Grimm, and cat, Smokey.
Registration is required to Kathy Almeida, 774.488.5325,  kalmeida@peopleinc-fr.org.
About the speaker: Patti’s aim is to make some of the more enigmatic behaviors related to autism, such as wandering, bolting, sequestering, and self-injury, more understandable from the perspective of a person with autism. She also shares her experience of the strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum. While mostly verbal, Patti sometimes loses speech and uses AAC as back-up.
