 Boston:* iPads for Learners with Significant Special Needs: June 27th, 2013, 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon, Easter Seals Boston. This workshop will review ways to use the i-Pad to engage, motivate and teach learners with severe special needs. Topics will include APPs for cause and effect, APPs for cortical vision impairment, using a switch with an iPad and more. i-Pad Apps for Language & Learning - Understand How The Latest AAC Devices Can Benefit Your Child: March 20th, 2013, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., Spaulding Outpatient Center for Children, Lexington.  Using Assistive Technology at School, Home and in the Community. March 7th, 2013, 10 a.m. - 12 noon, Boston, MA. Emily Laubscher, M.S., CCC-SLP of the Autism Language Program at Children's Hospital Boston will speak about assistive technology (AT) and implementing evaluators recommendations at school and home. Ms. Laubscher is part of a project focused on developing models for implementing AT and overcoming barriers to its use, and has hands-on experience working intensively with a student as well as researching the topic.   Learn How Technolgy Can Help Those with Autism Communicate: Aligning the Characteristics of Autism with the Features of Mobile Devices: October 10th, 2012, 6 - 8 p.m., Children's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Howard Shane will cover how mobile devices are being used to improve learning and communication skills for those on the autism spectrum, present strategies for selecting mobile software apps best suited to your child’s talents, needs and difficulties. Dr. Shane’s research focus is on children with complex communication impairment related to autism and other developmental disorders, and currently is studying the use of technology and visual supports to improve communication and learning in persons with autism.
